Benefits of Naturally Green Lawn Organic Fertilizer:
Reduces Water Requirements
A lawn fertilized with Natural Green Lawns organic fertilizer
will need less water for two reasons:
- organic fertilizers contain organic matter that increases the amount of moisture the soil can hold.
- brown grass in
the summer can be compounded by lack of other nutrients.
On
our west coast lawns, it is important to manage the nutrients
in our lawns. Not only does it keep our lawns greener and
more attractive, it reduces water use in our communities!
Natural aeration
Plant roots need air for good health, which is
the reasons that lawn aeration is important. However, with a
Naturally Green Lawn,
you will attract our natural soil aerators, the earthworms!
Earthworms provide aeration 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year.
As you begin the Naturally Green Lawn program, you may require
mechanical aeration initially. However, within one or two years,
we can expect the natural soil microorganisms to do a great
job of aeration for you!
Nutrients released as plants require them
On the west coast, our
lawns grow during most months of the year. Our lawns begin actively
growing in February, and grow well through
November. Our rainfall can also be very high, especially during
the spring and fall. Many chemical fertilizers become water soluble
very quickly,
and are at risk of being washed down below the root zone. With
chemical fertilizer, you have to apply fertilizer up to 5 or 6
times per year.
Naturally Green Lawn fertilizer releases nutrients
during the entire growing season, at a rate that the grass can
utilize. This means
that our lawns stay green throughout the season, and we don’t
have to fertilize more than twice per year. We recommend two applications
per year of the Naturally Green Lawn fertilizer. The first
application can be made as early as the end
of February. The second application should be made in late June
or early July.

Contains all of the nutrients required by grass,
not just nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium Your actively growing
lawn needs to be fed. We
measured how much nutrients
an actively growing
lawn requires in
a year. As you can see from the table,
your grass requires
much more than simply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium,
which are the only nutrients found in many chemical fertilizers.
Naturally Green Lawns fertilizer is formulated for our
actively growing west coast lawns. It contains all of
the nutrients required for your lawn, not just NPK
(nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium). A complete fertilizer blend
is required for your lawn to be healthy for the future.
Enhanced Microbial Activity Reduces Thatch
Thatch is an accumulation
of dead grass on the surface of the soil as can be seen in the
photograph on the left. It is often
recommended that you physically remove this dead grass in order
for new healthy grass to grow. The photograph on the right
shows my lawn in November 2003. There is no thatch. This lawn
has never been dethatched.
Naturally Green Lawns organic fertilizer program is designed
to eliminate thatch buildup. This product encourages a healthy
microbial population, which feed on the dead grass. This means that
you don’t have to remove this thatch, it simply becomes part
of the soil organic matter. The nutrients in this dead grass are
recycled to grow a new healthy lawn.

100% Natural - Safe to Use
Naturally Green Lawns organic fertilizer
is produced using a recomposted spent mushroom compost base.
It also contains some feather meal, zeolites and humates, which
are natural geological materials. The composted product
has undergone a thorough composting process, at temperatures
exceeding 60 C for at least three weeks. This ensures that there
are no harmful bacteria or other microorganisms in this material.
I designed this organic fertilizer because I want to be assured
that my children and their friends will be safe as they
play on my lawn. I also want to know that I am taking the best
care of the small piece of earth that I am responsible for.
