Thatch
is an accumulation of dead grass on the surface of the soil as can
be seen in the photograph on the left. It is often recommended that
you physically remove this dead grass in order for new healthy grass
to grow.
The photograph on the right shows my lawn in November 2003. There
is no thatch. This lawn has never been dethatched.
Naturally Green Lawns fertilizer program is designed to eliminate
thatch buildup. This product encourages a healthy microbial population,
which feed on the dead grass. This means that you don’t have
to remove this thatch, it simply becomes part of the soil organic
matter. The nutrients in this dead grass are recycled to grow a
new healthy lawn.
